Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, has sent a second letter to Ed Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, in an attempt to uncover why the leading Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project in Europe failed to make the UK’s top four in the Government’s CCS competition.
Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies: ‘It is completely disgraceful that one month has passed and I am yet to receive clarification as to why the Secretary of State rejected the leading CCS project in Europe. It was a shocking decision by the Government and I want to get to the bottom of it.
‘In terms of deliverability, 2Co Energy’s proposal at Stainforth, Doncaster was the most advanced in the UK. It has planning permission, its finances are in place including one billion pounds of Korean investment, it was top of the list for further European funding and being the largest scheme on the table has the scope to deliver most jobs and growth and help the Government hit its tough CO2 emission targets.
‘Backing projects still at the development stage is a half hearted commitment to making the UK one of the market leaders in this new technology. It is a backward step.
‘Does this £1billion funding pot really exist? Has the Government something to hide? Let’s see if the Secretary of State has the common courtesy to respond to this second letter!’ There are no pictures to accompany this article | Search Villager Archives for similar articles | [Top..] |
