Children in Care and Care Leavers from Doncaster were honoured for their hard work and achievements on the Route to Success training programme designed to boost their job prospects.
The young people, aged 16-21, attended the 12 week programme which aims to deliver stimulating and thought-provoking learning focussing on personal development, employment and careers. The Doncaster Council programme was put together to engage with Children in Care and Care Leavers and was delivered by Employment Personal Development Consultant Hayley Taylor, who is familiar to many from her TV show The Fairy Jobmother.
Eleanor Brazil, Director of Children and Young People's Services, said: ‘Well done to all the young people on their success. It is thoroughly well deserved as they have worked tremendously hard. I'd also like to extend our thanks to Hayley Taylor as it is clear that the young people have benefited a great deal from her knowledge, guidance and expertise.’
Eleanor added: ‘Every young person deserves the very best foundations to enable them to build themselves a successful career and to realise their great potential. We are confident that the Route to Success programme will support them in their journey to achieving their hopes and dreams.
‘We wish them well on the next stage of their careers.’
Hayley Taylor said: ‘Route to Success has identified and shown just how essential it is that specifically designed programmes offering new and innovative ways of learning are available to young people either in or leaving the care of the local authorities.
‘The young people who attended the 12 week course are now equipped with the skills that will lead them not only towards better employment prospects but also towards leading better lives. I am so lucky to have a job that allows me to share in these remarkable journeys.’
Here is just a snapshot of some of the positive comments from the young people on the course.
Jamie said: ‘I think I have come very far since I have joined the course. I have now got a job and all that is down to Hayley. She has boosted my confidence.’
According to Jay: ‘ The Route to Success course is something that I have found extremely invaluable, not only has it made more job ready, it has made me a lot more mature as a person.’
Nathan added: ‘The Route to Success course has helped me very much in finding employment. The environment was very homely and welcoming.
‘Thank you to Hayley and everyone that helps Hayley for believing in me and all other young people.’
