'FASTER SCANNER' GETS CRYSTAL PEAK'S £6017.82!
Weston Park Hospital Cancer 'Faster Scanner' Appeal is over £6000 closer to its target today - thanks to popular shopping centre Crystal Peaks and its generous local community.
'From simply selling lapel badges within the centres' shops and stores to water feature penny wishes - even free quarterly tea dances for small donations - it all helped in playing a part to raise this fantastic amount,' commented Centre Manager, Chris Jones. 'Weston Park was such an obvious choice as it has an excellent reputation for good work and we wish the Appeal a very speedy conclusion in gaining this vital piece of new equipment.'
Appeal Director, Bridget Evans said, 'We were delighted to have been chosen as the Shopping Centre's Annual Adopted Charity 2002 this year. It's a fantastic launch for the 'Faster Scanner Appeal' - which is now essential to acquire. Technology develops rapidly and the hospital needs a CT scanner to give our patients the best radiotherapy treatment possible. The resolution on the new machine is much clearer, so each image produced will give an accurate picture of what's going on inside the patient's body. Doctors will gain more confidence in identifying and interpreting what they see, in turn it will produce scans that are fast enough and thin enough to meet the requirements of the advanced cancer research trials. Another benefit will see the results being fed into the Radiotherapy Imaging Centre information system an optimum and obvious advantage for everyone.'
Head of Radiotherapy at Weston park, Dr Martin Robinson commented, 'Over the last six years the old scanner has transformed treatment planning at Weston Park Hospital. We are at the forefront of conformal radiotherapy planning in the UK. This appeal for a replacement scanner will enable us to remain at the cutting edge of radiotherapy developments. It's very early days yet and we've a long way to go but a big thank you must go out to everyone at Crystal Peaks for helping us with this contribution.'
