Job seekers who have set their sights on sky scraping careers at Robin Hood Airport when it opens next year are invited to an information event at the Lifetime Opportunities Centre, Bradford Row on Wednesday 11 August at 2pm.
Directions Finningley, the partnership handling recruitment at the airport site, is hosting an event to answer questions about the types of jobs available, qualifications needed and how to apply. Anyone interested should phone to book their place as soon as possible on 01302 366065.
‘The skills required at the airport will be very varied. At the event, we will highlight some of the many areas where local people can take advantage of training courses at nearby colleges to ensure they are first in the queue when recruitment starts,’ said Chris Hiley of Directions Finningley partner Lifetime Opportunities.
Ideally, candidates need to have good customer service and team working skills, be physically fit, able to work unsociable hours, hold a driving licence and have no criminal record.
‘Obviously, there is a huge amount of interest in jobs at the airport from all over the region and so competition for positions will be fierce. The purpose of the event is to advise local people on their best plan of action to be successful in gaining work at the airport. We will advise them on any training they need and where to get it,’ said Chris
A huge choice of jobs will eventually result in over 2,000 positions being created directly at the airport. These range from aviation careers including pilot, technician or air traffic control, to IT, administration and customer services. Other areas include emergency fire services, cleaning and support servicing, security, retail, accounting, distribution and warehouse operations, engineering maintenance and transport.
‘The list of jobs is almost endless and will provide local employment opportunities for many years to come. Directions Finningley is keen to set a high recruitment standard to ensure the scheme is world class, giving international visitors using the airport a good impression of the town. This event will give Doncaster residents the chance to find out how they can improve their chance of gaining employment at the site in the future,’ said Chris.
