The new Frenchgate, Doncaster, has been short listed for the ‘Best New Shopping Centre or Refurbishment’ in Property Week’s Retail and Leisure Property Awards 2007.
Each category has been voted on by the Retail & Leisure Academy, which is made up of 175 key property industry luminaries. The winners will be announced on the 9th July at The Grosvenor Hotel, London, to more than 1000 of the property industry’s finest.
Other nominees at the awards include Sir Terry Leahy, Chief Executive of Tesco, for ‘Personality of the Year’ and Marks & Spencer, which is nominated for four awards overall including ‘Retailer of the Year’ and the ‘Green Award’.
The nomination comes hot on the heels of a commendation award Frenchgate received at the RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards in May. The development was singled out for praise in the Commercial category.
Earlier this year Frenchgate was also short listed in Retail Week’s Gold Awards in the ‘In Town Retail Scheme’ category.
An integrated development, the £250 million Frenchgate is one of the first in the country to combine retail and public transport in a town centre location.
With its success, Frenchgate has raised the retail ranking position of Doncaster from 51 to 21 in the UK in terms of shopping offer, according to independent research.
The scheme includes 880,000 sq ft of retail space, a 30 stand bus interchange linked directly to the railway station and 1400 new car parking spaces for rail users and shoppers.
