Staff and pupils at Hexthorpe Primary School have every reason to celebrate following a recent exceptional Ofsted report that has graded the school as outstanding across all areas with no key issues for improvement identified.
Inspectors praised the school’s stimulating curriculum, which offers pupils a wide range of rapid learning opportunities both in the classroom and after school. Skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT were noted as being considerably well developed, whilst having a direct responsibility in managing the large school allotments and close work with the community has enriched pupils’ lives.
Despite many of the pupils arriving at the school with lower than average attainment, the superb quality of teaching and learning has resulted in pupils often exceeding the expected levels for their age by the time they leave Hexthorpe Primary. In particular, the report acknowledged the school’s very high expectations based on a thorough understanding of pupils’ achievements and of the best teaching strategies to use to engage them fully. One parent who recognised this said: ‘My child has come on in leaps and bounds, loves school and I think that speaks for itself.’
As well as outstanding achievement, the inspection also highlighted outstanding personal development. The report stated it was clear that pupils loved coming to school with behaviour rated as very good indeed. It was also noted how pupils feel very safe and extremely well prepared for future life because of the high quality of teaching of important issues such as the dangers of drugs and alcohol, which have led to the school achieving national awards.
The report praised the inspirational leadership of headteacher, Mrs Catherine Lawson, stating that combined with excellent support from the deputy headteacher and senior staff, it is clear that everyone connected with the school feels valued and respected and successfully strives to give their best.
Commenting on the results, Mayor Martin Winter said: ‘Congratulations to all at Hexthorpe Primary on this tremendous achievement. Supporting world class education and skills is top of my agenda and I am very proud to see schools like Hexthorpe take such good care of its pupils and provide them with the best possible start in life.’
Headteacher, Catherine Lawson, added: ‘We couldn’t have asked for a better evaluation of the school. I must thank all of our pupils, parents/guardians, staff, Governors and members of the community for demonstrating such continuous hard work, strong commitment and dedicated support to Hexthorpe Primary every single day.’
The inspection found no significant weaknesses and the school’s robust monitoring procedures ensure any concerns, no matter how minor, are quickly addressed. There are no pictures to accompany this article | Search Villager Archives for similar articles | [Top..] |
