With the ban on smoking in public places only 2 weeks away the new Frenchgate, Doncaster, has teamed up with the NHS Primary Care Trust to provide Smoking Cessation Clinics for all shop and centre staff.

The weekly clinics are completely free to all staff within the centre and will offer full support to quitters, in addition to providing prescriptions for Nicotine Replacement Therapy products.

Susan Harris, Centre Manager, successfully quit smoking 2 ½ years ago; ‘As of Sunday 1 July we cannot permit smoking anywhere on the Frenchgate site so we want to give as much support as possible to everyone who works in the centre and who wants to give up.

‘Having given up smoking myself I know how difficult the first steps can be and I am really keen to let people know how worthwhile the effort is in the long run. The help of the Primary Care Trust will be invaluable. ‘

From Sunday 1 July virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England will become smokefree. A smokefree England will ensure a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from second-hand smoke.

Smoking was banned on the malls in Frenchgate in 2002 and from Sunday 1 July it will be illegal to smoke anywhere on the Frenchgate site.

In 2003 the centre received the Clean Air Award, a national certificate that rewards public places that have gone smokefree and actively promotes no smoking. The award is an initiative of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and was presented to the centre by his widow, Fiona Castle.

Boots have also partnered with QUIT, the UK charity that helps people give up smoking, to support employers who wish to help their staff quit smoking.

Aiming to help 1 million people give up smoking this year Boots are offering a free smoking cessation service which includes:

·     Expert advice and information from pharmacists and trained healthcare advisors
·     A personalised plan to help you quit
·     A free lung age test
·     A free stop smoking support pack
·     Recommendation of the most suitable Nicotine Replacement products
·     Fantastic deals on products
·     Employee packs
·     Discount vouchers
