The Green Conference successfully provided business delegates with an exclusive opportunity to focus sharply on the impact of climate change on businesses, especially in terms of risks and adaptation; as well as provide more specific examples of new business opportunities.
The Conference bought together all those involved in the Green agenda – practitioners delivering business support and diversity services such as academic staff, business experts and mentors, but also including policy-makers, consultants, researchers and of course enterprising people. The emphasis of the conference was to encourage businesses to develop strategies of what constitutes good practice and coherent policy with respect to Climate change.
Delegates viewed the documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ - an Academy Award-winning documentary film about climate change, specifically global warming, presented by former United States Vice President Al Gore and directed by Davis Guggenheim.
The event featured keynote presentations from the Yorkshire Forward, Business in the Community and workshop sessions on the five themes. The Conference also showcased beautifully stunning paintings and drawings illustrating the impact of climate change using inspiring images from Mahmood Manning.
Local, sub-regional and national partners attended to create awareness of climate change and the impact on enterprise through a series of workshops. The conference was an opportunity for all those in enterprise to discuss ideas and good practice and to keep up to date with advances.
Keynote Speakers were Mike Smith (Head of Sustainable Development: Yorkshire Forward), Bill Costa (Manager: Devonshire Group) and Adam Woodhall (Director: People, Profit, Planet). The conference was attended by over 100 delegates.
‘We are certainly wrong to believe that action on climate change means economic stagnation. On the contrary, it will lead to an unleashing of a new clean industrial revolution based on green aspirations and technology’ said Amjad Parvez (Chair of ATL and Managing Direcor Seafresh & Dams Food Supplies).
The event included a buffet & refreshments from the Aagrah Restaurant. The conference was supported by Yorkshire Forward and Business Link West Yorkshire.
