Magna Science Adventure Centre’s visitors raised over £500 last night at a Summer BBQ as part of the Master Cutlers’ Challenge 2008.

The Summer BBQ was organised to raise funds for Rotherham Hospice and was opened by Gill Shaw, Chief Officer of Rotherham Hospice and Matthew Beck, Managing Director of Magna.

Throughout the evening, visitors purchased raffle tickets for a chance to win a range of fantastic prizes, donated by local hoteliers, businesses and attractions. Rotherham Hospice volunteers ran a tombola and face painting and a treasure trail were also available.

All staff worked on an unpaid volunteer basis and the prizes, food, drink and sound equipment were donated by partners and local businesses. Managing Director Matthew Beck commented ‘The evening has been a great success, with everyone enjoying the summer weather and a fantastic sum raised for Rotherham Hospice. The Master Cutler’s Challenge is an important initiative and a worthwhile cause which Magna fully supports and I would to thank everyone who has been involved in planning and executing the BBQ.’

The evening was also a launch night for Magna’s new late opening every Thursday during the 6 week holidays. Magna will be open until 9.00pm with access to a BBQ, bar and refreshments available, so visitors can play for longer!
