Askern is to be the next village in Doncaster to benefit from regeneration through the Green Corridor Programme, as Doncaster Council begin the masterplanning process for improvements to the Instoneville estate and Kings/Queens Road area.

Doncaster Council has engaged John Thompson & Partners, from the masterplanning panel, to develop a masterplan for the two areas. They will manage the community consultation process that involves a whole range of activities from newsletters, leaflets, meetings and contact with local interest groups.

Residents are being asked for their opinions, views and comments on the future of the two areas. They are invited to join in community planning events for Askern with the first being held today, Friday 1 August 2008, at Moss Road Infant School between 2pm - 7.30pm and Saturday 2 August 2008 at Askern Spa Junior School between 11am - 4pm.

The events will give residents and businesses alike the chance take part in ‘hands on’ exercises to explore the needs of the local community. The outcomes of the event will be summarised with proposals for inclusion in a future masterplan that when adopted will guide future development to regenerate the area.

Councillor Andrea Milner, Cabinet member for Connected Communities said: ‘Providing housing and sustainable communities that people want is a key priority for me. It is vitally important that we can provide the residents of Askern with a community that they can enjoy and be proud of for many years to come. I would encourage everyone in Askern to have their say as they are crucial in shaping the masterplan.’
Residents wanting to know any further information on the masterplanning process at Askern can call freephone 0800 1804159 or email housing.projects@doncaster.gov.uk.
