Although businesses are all still feeling the economic downturn, HK2 Structural Timber Ltd has shown that a family business can run successfully and buck the trend.
After their successful launch in March 2009, husband and wife James and Karen Houlsby and their nephews Andrew and Michael Kennedy have expanded steadily growing their business and are now employing five full time members of staff. These employees have predominantly been lifted from long term unemployment or developed through an apprenticeship scheme.
HK2 Structural Timber already supply to customers in South and West Yorkshire, Chesterfield, Nottinghamshire and parts of Leicestershire. This year the company has key plans to increase their presence in North Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Humberside.
Part of their business success can be put down to the help of Success Doncaster, Invest in Doncaster and personal mentoring from Mr Clive Hutton (D100). Invaluable advice and help has been received from all these areas especially during initial set up.
HK2 Structural Timber Ltd is looking forward to 2010 when the economy starts to emerge from the recession and the company grows along with the country’s building industry.
