Chris Shaw’s decorating career began when he gave a mate a helping hand.
He liked it and now he’s studying the NVQ Level 3 Painting and Decorating course in the work place at Doncaster College.
‘I wanted to learn more, get better and make a career out of it’ said Chris.
He’s certainly doing that…Chris, 23,from Moss, Doncaster, is a very talented decorator and has entered national competitions. Earlier this year he won a Bronze medal in the painting and decorating section of The Skillbuild National final.
Skillbuild is the Uk’s biggest and longest running construction skills competition and attracts competitors from across the whole country and this year’s national final was held in Wales.
After painting his way through the regional heats in Leeds, Chris along with eleven other regional winners made the long trip to Wales, but it was well worth it.
‘The intention was to get on the podium, so a third place bronze medal, I’m very happy with that’
He then reached the final of the Johnstone’s Young Painter of the year 2010 which took place at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry in early November. This prestigious competition promotes and celebrates young talent and encourages young people to pursue a career in the industry.
Chris added to his impressive tally of medals by going one better than the previous competition and finishing with a runner’s up silver medal. Next time the gold!
The College in honour of his efforts in this years competitions presented Chris with an ‘Exceptional Achievement Award’ at the Painting and Decorating Association annual dinner and dance in front of national and regional Presidents and Doncaster employers recently.
Glyn Nettleton, his lecturer at the College said ‘ Chris is a credit to us and Oak Apple Decor his employer’. Hover over each picture for a description, or click to load larger image. | Search Villager Archives for similar articles | [Top..] |
