On Friday the 3rd of December 2010, Armthorpe Air Cadet, Michael Pitman earned his promotion to the highest cadet rank within the Air Training Corps.

Cadets gain promotion based on leadership, maturity and hard work. Cadet Flight Sergeant Michael Pitman was promoted to the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, a rank above those, which a regular Squadron Commander can give out. In order for Michael to attain this rank, he had to sit an interview board with senior members in charge of the South and West Yorkshire Squadrons. Commonly, the person in sole charge of the area; Wing Commander B. Daniel RAF VR(T) would be accompanied by two other members, forming the interview panel. Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions, he was unable to attend, and therefore the area’s second in command; Chief of Staff - Squadron Leader T. Souter RAF VR(T) attended the squadron to conduct the interview.

After an enduring 30 minute interview behind closed doors where the candidate must show good knowledge of the RAF, The Air Cadet Structure, the Officers and their Roles, As well as a number of questions regarding the situations a Cadet Warrant Officer my encounter.

Having been successful in his interview, Squadron Leader Souter presented him with his new rank in front of the squadron.
