Ensemble 360
Saturday 5 February, 7.30pm
Priory Place Methodist Church, Doncaster

BEETHOVEN Piano Trio Op.1 No.2
REINECKE Trio in A Op.188 for horn, oboe and piano
ADÈS Catch for clarinet, violin, cello and piano
WEBER Clarinet Quintet in B flat
A programme of the sublime and the absurd. From the profound second movement of Beethoven’s second Piano Trio and easy charm of Reinecke’s Trio to the children’s playground games of Catch and acrobatics of Weber’s Clarinet Quintet, this is a showcase of the wonderful extremes of classical music.
Catch, by the prolific young British composer Thomas Adès, is a breathtaking and intricate game of cat-and-mouse between the seated piano trio and the roving clarinet.

£11/£9 concessions/£3 under 18s and students. First time bookers can get two tickets for £5 each through The Civic box office.

Little Red Riding Hood
Saturday 19 March, 3.00pm
Priory Place Methodist Church, Doncaster

Ensemble 360 and narrator Polly Ives bring another compelling children’s show to Barnsley. This time it’s Paul Patterson’s brilliant musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood. Taken from Revolting Rhymes this is ideal for Key Stages 1 and 2 but is also a witty and inspiring treat for adults.
After the concert, meet the musicians for more musical mischief! Why not come dressed as the wicked Wolfie, Grandmama or Miss Hood?
£6/ £3 under 18s and students. For group bookings of 10 or more please of four contact Music in the Round on 0114 281 4660

Ensemble 360
Saturday 19 March, 7.30pm
Priory Place Methodist Church, Doncaster

BEETHOVEN Duo for Clarinet and Bassoon
PATTERSON Little Red Riding Hood
for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon, piano and narrator
ZEMLINSKY Humoreske for Wind Quintet
SPOHR Quintet in C Op.52 for flute, clarinet, horn, bassoon and piano
In true Ensemble 360 style this programme is a plethora of fantastic works that do not receive the attention they deserve.

During his lifetime Spohr was regarded as one of the Great German composers, a fitting companion to Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, but after his death his popularity declined.
Although writing at the beginning of the 20th Century Zemlinsky’s music looks back to that of Brahms and Wagner. His Humoreske is a sprightly and uplifting short work.

Based on Roald Dahl’s version of this age-old fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood, is a treat for adults as well as children with hidden references to well-known classical pieces...why should the grown ups miss out on the fun?

£11/£9 concessions/£3 under 18s and students. First time bookers can get two tickets for £5 each through The Civic box office.

Ensemble 360
Saturday 2 April, 7.30pm
Priory Place Methodist Church, Doncaster

MARTINU Quartet
for oboe, violin, cello and piano
DOHNÁNYI Sextet in C
for piano, clarinet, horn, violin, viola and cello
POULENC Trio
for oboe, bassoon and piano
DVORÁK Piano Quartet in E flat Op. 87
Both Dvorák and Martinu emigrated to America but unlike Dvorák, who eventually returned to his native Czechoslovakia, Martinu was to stay in exile for the remainder of his life. Written in 1947, his Quartet is full of the freshness and vitality of the Czech dance and folk idioms and conveys a sense of longing for his homeland.
Poulenc and Dohnányi are both known for their inimitable style, Dohnányi a full-blown late Romantic and Poulenc light but typically French. Poulenc said of his Trio, ‘It’s in a style new to me yet at the same time it’s very Poulenc’.

£11/£9 concessions/£3 under 18s and students. First time bookers can get two tickets for £5 each through The Civic box office.

Elias String Quartet
Thursday 19 May, 7.30pm
Priory Place Methodist Church, Doncaster

BEETHOVEN Quartet in F Op.18 No.1
BART?K Quartet No.3 in C sharp
SMETANA Quartet No.1 in E minor From My Life
The Elias String Quartet was a founding member of Ensemble 360 and has since gone on to win BBC Music Magazine’s Newcomer of the Year and are BBC New Generation Artists. It is a great pleasure to welcome them back as guests this year.

Beethoven’s Op.18 quartets show him both mastering the styles of his predecessors, Haydn and Mozart, whilst pushing the boundaries onto new ground.
Bart?k’s short third quartet is one of his most focused and structured pieces. which takes much inspiration from folk melodies.
Smetana was one of the first to compose an autobiographical work, writing to a good friend saying ‘My intention was to paint a tone picture of my life’.

£11/£9 concessions/£3 under 18s and students. First time bookers can get two tickets for £5 each through The Civic box office.
