The Hyde Park Christmas Market and Fayre that took place in November proved a huge success with over 400 local residents turning up to enjoy an afternoon of festivities.
Small local businesses supported by Success Doncaster were offered stalls at the event as an opportunity for them to promote their products to the public and increase their income before Christmas. Jewellery, confectionary, flowers and soft toys were among the gifts on sale.
Santa’s grotto proved to be the star attraction with 170 children visiting Santa and receiving a present. Another popular activity was ‘Guess the name of the Donkey’ which raised £150 for the Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, who had loaned the donkey for the day.
The event also played host to fairground rides, a mobile ice skating rink and an array of entertainment, including hip hop dancing. Hyde Park Knights football club were also in attendance and generated £250 through their sale of Christmas cakes, pies and chutney. The money will go towards new equipment and will allow four junior football teams to continue being coached.
Throughout the day, the Hyde Park Opportunity Centre staff were also on hand to provide information about the services on offer at their local Centre. In total, over 140 individuals have already been supported by the Success Doncaster programme. The Financial Inclusion team advised residents on money management issues during this expensive Christmas period and Jobmates, Enterprise Coaches and Goals Life coaches were among the partners attending the event.
Councillor Cynthia Ransome, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods commented, ‘It is good that so many residents turned up to support this fun-filled festive event. I hope they enjoyed the activities on offer and took advantage of the support available on the day.’ There are no pictures to accompany this article | Search Villager Archives for similar articles | [Top..] |
