Anyone who has been to Old Hall, University Centre Doncaster at High Melton recently will have noticed the walls have been transformed by a splash of colour.

The Hall, which includes four large corridors and several entrance foyers, was transformed by Painting and Decorating students from Doncaster College in a real life environment which was always open to student and staff access. The students involved had to take measurements as well as take into consideration health and safety due to working in a live environment.

The project involved various departments and many people working together and co-operating across the College, including Estates, Painting and Decorating LecturerNeal Preskey and students, Marketing, Senior Management and art lecturer Mike Bunn and students from various arts courses. Painting and Decorating students will use the work that they have done in Old Hall as part of their course assessment, so it will help them towards their final grade as well as providing a service to the college.

In all, the Hall has taken four weeks to make over, and will eventually have white frames on the walls and strategically placed plinths to house work from different art courses at Doncaster College and at the University Centre Doncaster, from fine art, fashion, photography, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics and many more.

Errol Michell from Marketing, who was involved in choosing the colour scheme, said, ‘It would have been easy to select safe but obvious colours on the walls and a transitional approach would have been just that, so change and a visually strong change was the choice.’
