Doncaster based Norking Aluminium has secured a £600,000 contract to provide the glazing façade for the Doncaster’s exciting new performance venue.
By attending a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event, organised by Doncaster Council and Invest in Doncaster last year, the company met key business contacts which put them in touch with VINCI Construction and saw them successfully tender for and win this big work package.
The new performance venue is one of the major developments included in the town’s new Civic and Cultural Quarter (CCQ) and should be open in summer 2013. The CCQ project is being delivered by the council and its development partner Muse Developments.
Graeme Gibson, Managing Director of Norking Aluminium Ltd, speaking at last week’s ‘Meet the Buyer’ event, said: ‘I am pleased to be associated with such an exciting project for Doncaster. The glazing façade contract for the new performance venue will start in April and will be our flagship contract for the year.
‘We attended the ‘Meet the Buyer’ event last year and although the contract for the new civic offices had been let, we developed some valuable relationships which ultimately led to us winning this work in Doncaster and also Birley School in Sheffield. Events like this are a wonderful business development opportunity and have seen us secure two contracts with VINCI worth approaching £1million.’
Peter Dale, Doncaster Council’s Director of Regeneration and Environment, said: ‘I am delighted Norking Aluminium has landed such a substantial work contract on the new performance venue. These ‘Meet the Buyer’ events have put our local firms in contact with major players in the construction industry and given them the chance to bid for work on projects within the town and across the region. They have been a real success story.’
About 70 local business people turned up at the latest ‘Meet the Buyer’ event held at Doncaster Racecourse last week (Thursday 22 March).
At the event, attendees met VINCI Construction, the principal contractor for the new performance venue, and Wates Construction responsible for building new schools at De Warenne Academy and Outwood Academy.
They found out about the remaining work packages for these projects and appropriate companies will be invited to tender for work on future projects in Doncaster and across the region.
Gary Thomasson, Construction Director, VINCI Construction UK Building Division – North, commented: ‘We are delighted to be working with Norking Aluminium Ltd on this exciting project. Their expertise in constructing envelope designs will enable us to successfully build Doncaster’s new performance venue to an exceptionally high standard. VINCI Construction UK recycle the local pound to encourage local investment, which will consequently expand the sales opportunities for South Yorkshire.
‘We are delighted with the success of the Meet the Buyer Event. There was a high attendance of quality local Doncaster companies and we are looking forward to forming future working relationships with. Meet the Buyer Event creates real opportunities for local companies and enables them to get involved with prestigious buildings, such as the Doncaster new performance venue, which shape the region.’

The CCQ project is supported financially by the European Union, as part of the European Regional Development Fund’s support for the region’s economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme.
