Doncaster-based Elite Shopfitters Ltd has become the latest local company to benefit from the town’s Civic and Cultural Quarter (CCQ) project, landing a £975,000 joinery contract for Doncaster’s £20 million new performance venue.

Elite Shopfitters Ltd is a specialist in joinery skills and secured an appointment by VINCI Construction UK to deliver a joinery package which will see the installation of auditorium spaces, doors and counters and the fit-out of the bar, restaurant, back of house and main reception areas of the venue.

Work on the new venue includes a 620 seat main auditorium, a second 200 seat/400 standing flexible space, dance and drama studios, educational spaces, a cafe and bar and a large open foyer and box office. The project is progressing extremely well and should be completed spring 2013.

Keith Shivers, Regional Director, VINCI Construction UK, Building Division – North East, said: ‘We are delighted to have appointed Elite Shopfitters Ltd to this fantastic project. VINCI Construction UK has over 90 years’ experience in delivering some of the UK’s landmark structures and buildings, and we are confident that together with Elite’s expertise in joinery we will deliver a landmark performance venue that Doncaster and the local community can be proud of.’

Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies, said: ‘This is another success story for local companies winning work and benefiting from the major projects being delivered across the borough. Elite Shopfitters Ltd work with clients all over the country and I am pleased they have secured this big contract which will see them work in their home town on this superb new performance venue.’

Adrian Stockhill, Managing Director of Elite Shopfitters Ltd, said: ’Being based in Doncaster we are delighted to have secured this contract with VINCI Construction UK and look forward to working with them to deliver this exciting new venue for the town.’

The venue which forms part of the first phase of the CCQ regeneration scheme has been commissioned by Doncaster Council and its development partner, Muse Developments. The CCQ is part funded by the European Union, as part of the European Regional Development Fund. The venue has been supported financially by Arts Council England.

In March, Doncaster Council’s Invest in Doncaster team helped organise a Meet the Buyer event to provide local businesses with information on the new performance venue and other key projects. The event ensured local firms had the opportunity to tender for suitable contracts. Invest in Doncaster is promoting further work packages amongst Doncaster-based companies and can be contacted on Tel: 01302 737 447.
