The world famous Royal Marines were at Doncaster College the other day putting 70 Public Service students through a rigorous training session.

The two members , Marines Mike and Chris, of the visiting Royal Marine Visibility Team put students from the BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 Public Service courses through their paces.
Students were also able to quiz the Marines about life in the services, what they do and how rewarding being a Royal Marine can be.

Ron Shaw, course leader of the Level 3 course at the College said, ‘The visit of the Royal Marine Commandos is always of immense benefit to our learners. It gives them an insight into what they do followed by some ‘light’ physical exercise! Their staff are always enthusiastic and engage well with the learners, encourage them and praise them when they have put in the effort. They attend the college on a regular basis and always speak well of our learners.’

As well as a vigorous training session, students were given a series of challenging activities to demonstrate the importance of communication and cooperation. Each task required organisation, problem solving, discipline and above all teamwork.

Ron said, ‘The partnership we have with the royal Marines gives the learners an excellent opportunity to experience what it may be like to join what is clearly an excellent uniformed public service.’

The College, as part of the flourishing relationship, have been invited to take some learners to the Marines training centre for a weeks ‘look at life’ later in the year.
