Roller Derby On Film announces gallery show showcasing the growth of UK derby over the past four years.

Local photographer, Jason Ruffell, is set to exhibit four years’ worth of roller derby photography with his new show, This is Roller Derby, at Bank Street Arts, Sheffield, from 30 October to 10 November 2012.

Few of us have failed to noticed the growth of roller derby in the UK over the past few years.

Women on roller skates taking each other down with big hits and exciting tactics. To say nothing of the outfits.

With the popularity of Whip It! and Team England coming third in the 2011 World Cup, roller derby has proven it is here to stay.

To celebrate this, and roller derby’s transition over the past four years, Jason Ruffell, a premier roller derby photographer, is launching This is Roller Derby, a Sheffield-based photography exhibition set to capture the excitement of the bouts and also let us see a little of the women behind the skates.

The exhibition will feature action shots, team celebrations and more intimate portraits of various national and international teams, including Team England, London Rockin’ Rollers, Sheffield Steel Roller Girls, Leeds Roller Dolls and many more. It coincides with the release of Ellen Paranvelas’s book, The Roller Derby Athlete, featuring Ruffell’s work.

This is Roller Derby will run from 30 October to 10 November 2012 at Bank Street Arts, 36-40 Bank Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2DS. Entry is free.
