The Dons Rugby League Club has teamed up with Doncaster College and the players have been put through their paces using the College's indoor facilities over the last couple of weeks.
With the recent freezing weather the ground had become frozen, and made it very difficult for the Dons squad to get out and do quality pre-season training.
The link had been made possible thanks to Dons winger and Doncaster College Sports Science lecturer, Stewart Sanderson.
During the first session the team were subjected to pre-season fitness testing using the college's sports science equipment to give the coaching staff an idea of the current levels of players' fitness, and to see what improvements needed to be made.
The following week the squad underwent an intensive fitness session, using the indoor sports hall, activity room and gym. The players were pushed to their limits in a variety of training that included rowing, skills under fatigue and a cross-fit circuit.
This link will hopefully continue, benefiting both the College and the Dons, as they get ready for what will be a very tough season in the Championship.
Dons head coach Tony Miller said: ‘I'd like to say a big thank you to Doncaster College for allowing the Dons use their excellent facilities.
‘This has enabled us to get some quality training in the bank during the recent bad weather.’ There are no pictures to accompany this article | Search Villager Archives for similar articles | [Top..] |
