Sports clubs, businesses and artists are set to help young people on the road to success at a Doncaster Council event.
The Doncaster Central Area Team has organised a week of fun activities, between 20 and 23 August, aimed at inspiring youngsters after people in the Town Moor and Intake area said they wanted to see activities running that would raise the aspirations of young people in the area.
Councillor Joe Blackham Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Enforcement and Trading Services, said: ‘People in Town Moor and Intake asked for an event like this and the team has delivered a week of inspiring activities aimed at helping young people plan for their futures and learn from successful sports and business people.
‘As well as having fun they will be able to learn more about apprenticeships and how volunteering can help their community and help them develop their skills.’
Ward councillors Sue Knowles, Jane Kidd and Paul Wray have supported the event.
Councillor Kidd said: ‘As councillors we believe that helping to raise the aspirations of young people in Town Moor is one of the most important things we can do. That is why we are happy to support aspiration week in Town Moor as an innovative way to engage young people in the community and help them to think about options for their futures.’
There will be a chance to learn about volunteering and making a difference in the area, work on a community art project, learn from the best coaches from Doncaster Rovers, Castle Park Knights and Danum Eagles and meet successful business people from across Doncaster and receive informal careers advice, including information about apprenticeships.
Everyone attending activities during Aspiration Week will be entered into a free prize draw to win prizes including family tickets to Doncaster Knights or Doncaster Rovers matches and an Asda Giftcard.
