Billy Litherland is off to University to study Graphic Design with a £100 of vouchers in his back pocket after winning the brief to design the front cover of the new Purple Vouchers ‘Little Big Book Savings ‘ book.

Billy, who is 18 and hails from Balby, Doncaster, was chosen from more than thirty design students at Doncaster College.

Jackie Hamilton, Sales Director at Purple Vouchers takes up the story,
‘We approached Doncaster College design students late last year to offer them the chance to design the next Purple Vouchers book cover. We shortlisted the designs and chose 3 students, Billy, Alice Mennie and Martin Collins. Then we decided to award the first prize to Billy with his design. Billy wins £100 of vouchers and his name mentioned in the Purple Vouchers 2013 / 14 book. We will print 25, 000 copies of these and they are purchased locally.’

Billy, who has just finished the Level 3 Creative Graphic and Media Extended Diploma at the College, approached his design by initially researching old covers.
‘I researched the old covers, which used photos of people, and wanted to do something different with a bold type design, Jackie briefed us as to what they were looking for and we had to keep some elements of the original like the colours.’

Dave Bowers, Billy’s Lecturer at College said, ‘It was felt that his design developed brand design elements, but gave a fresh, exciting feel to the book. This was the latest opportunity for our students to work on a live brief, to tight deadlines. It is hoped that this is the start of other successful collaborations between Purple Vouchers and the Graphic Design students at Doncaster College.

Billy, when he has finished University, would like to use his graphic design skills to work in a sporting area. More specifically, his passion for American Football and support of the New York Giants is leading him towards a career into designing sports gear.

The Purple Vouchers Pocketbook is available in the Doncaster/Sheffield region
and has more than £6000 of savings on products and services through out the Yorkshire region.

The new 2013/14 edition of the Purple Vouchers ‘Little Big Book Savings ‘ book will be out at the end of August.
