DONCASTER parents are now able to sign their children up for free school meals at the click of a button, thanks to a revolutionary new online app.
With the new term just around the corner, Doncaster Council has set up an online application process on its website (www.doncaster.gov.uk)
for free school meals, which allows customers to apply online and receive confirmation of eligibility there and then.
The new process aims to improve customer experience, reduce avoidable contact, and reduce applications from customers who are not in receipt of qualifying benefits.
With 60 per cent of the borough’s primary age children choosing the live healthy with school meals, Doncaster already has one of the highest take-ups in the country.
Councillor Nuala Fennelly, Doncaster Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, said the new online app will revolutionise the free school meals process further.
She said: ‘It is widely known that school meals are an excellent way for children to get a nutritious, satisfying lunch. For some families, depending on their circumstances, their children can eat for free so I urge them to take advantage of this.
‘ Even if families do not have children who are eligible for free school meals - at around £2 - they are brilliant value for money.
‘I am delighted that this new app has been developed to make applying for school meals even easier.
‘My message to parents is: don’t miss out, be part of this success story and choose our healthy meals as part of your child’s diet.’
Doncaster’s youngsters can enjoy meals that are made fresh each day using high quality local produce such as British chicken, Yorkshire beef, Doncaster Pork, seasonal veg - and bread from Doncaster bakeries.
The new app is available on Doncaster Council’s website at www.doncaster.gov.uk
People should go to the ‘Do it Online’ page or face to face customers can use the self service area in the One Stop Shop at the Council’s Civic Centre on Waterdale. The link is below:
