The local branch of the Guide Dogs charity is looking for volunteers to support blind or partially sighted people through their My Guide scheme. My Guide volunteers play a crucial role in allowing people who may not have a guide dog to enhance their mobility, get out and about within the community, and regain a sense of independence.
Dave Clough from the charity said ‘the My Guide scheme has been really successful since its launch, and we’re proud of how it has helped hundreds of people to improve their quality of life. All we ask of our volunteers is an hour or so of their time each week, to help people on a one-to-one basis.’
‘Guide Dogs provide full training and support every step of the way through the scheme. The next chance to get involved will be on Wed 25th September in Handsworth, when we are running a free training workshop.’
‘This is a great opportunity for people to make a real difference to the lives of others as well as meeting different people and learning something new.’
