Energy efficiency business Vickers Electronics has enabled the UK’s leading railway engineering company Wabtec Rail to slash its gas bill by a third.
Wabtec Rail has reduced their heating gas usage by 31% and cut their CO2 emissions by 690 tonnes per year after installing one of Vickers Electronics’ cutting edge energy management systems at its Doncaster site.
As a direct result of the success in South Yorkshire, Vickers Electronics is to install similar technology at Wabtec Rail’s other sites – Wabtec Rail Scotland in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, and their site in Loughborough, Leicestershire.
Vickers Electronics specialises in the design, manufacture, fit-out and maintenance of technology systems which dramatically cut energy bills and Carbon emissions by controlling heating in commercial or industrial buildings.
Wabtec Rail and Vickers Electronics have been working together to reduce energy use at the 22-acre site in Doncaster for the last two years.
Vickers Electronics’ technology replaces conventional heating controls, which are often unreliable and wasteful, with purpose-built control panels which constantly monitor and control temperature and timings so that premises are optimally heated.
Wabtec Rail’s warehouses and sheds were also fitted with door sensors to limit heating loss. A network of seven control panels allows heating to be controlled via a single computer.
Malcolm McKinlay, regional accounts manager at Vickers Electronics, said: ‘All of our customers are guaranteed a saving on their energy bills, for Wabtec Rail the pledge was 19% but sub-metering installed to measure the results showed we’ve already achieved a 31.4% saving.
‘It’s a fact that our energy management systems boost bottom line performance while simultaneously improving environmental credentials.
‘Any firm that’s paying energy bills of £6,000 or more needs to talk to us because we can help cut that cost.
‘We’re looking forward to working with Wabtec Rail at Kilmarnock and Loughborough so we can repeat the same excellent levels of energy saving there.’
Steve Cowling, Works Services Manager of Wabtec Rail, said ‘it simply does what it says on the box and has returned expected savings.’
Vickers Electronics, which is headquartered in Trafford, Greater Manchester, is constantly expanding its product range. The latest system, the V42, can control lighting and electrical appliances as well as heating.
The firm has ambitious growth plans including trebling its turnover – from £4m to £12m - in the next three years.
