Doncaster College is continuing its Art club for young people, after another successful year.

It was set up, a couple years ago, in conjunction with the National Art & Design Saturday Club scheme which was originally started by the Sorrell Foundation, a charitable organization inspiring creativity in young people.

Doncaster College is one of 35 colleges and universities across the country that participates in the scheme and this year it will run the Art Club on Thursday evenings from 4.30pm until 6.30pm. The first one starts on Thursday 10th October at the Hub Campus on Chappell Drive. The Club runs for 30 weeks and there will be no charge to members for any club activities.

The idea of the club is to engage and inspire young people aged 14-16 through resources at their local college or university, and gives them the opportunity to explore the arts and nurture their talent. It will also show them a route into further and higher education and to careers in the creative industries.

Club members will have the opportunity to try a number of disciplines Textiles, Fashion, Printmaking, Photography, Ceramics, Wood & Metalwork, as well as Drawing & Painting.

Club members also get to visit some of London's best museums and galleries and exhibit work in their own Summer Show at Somerset House. They are also given the opportunity to attend a Masterclass from one of the UK’s foremost artists or designers, which previously have included Antony Gormley, Thomas Heatherwick, Naomi Cleaver, Betty Jackson and Peter Randall-Page.

So if you are interested and want to join then get in touch with Claire Perkins on 01302 553819 or email claire.perkins@don.ac.uk or contact Ian Latham via email ian.latham@don.ac.uk or ring him at Doncaster College on 01302 553 856.
