WORK has begun on 33 new homes across the borough as the local authority presses on with an ambitious house building programme.

The new homes are part of a £10 million Doncaster Council plan to build hundreds of homes in Doncaster across the next two years.

The homes – a mixture of one bed, two bed and four bed bungalows and houses – are being built by local company George Houlton and Sons Ltd across five sites in the borough and are set for completion in the summer of 2014.

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Glyn Jones, Doncaster Council’s Cabinet Member for Equalities, Cohesion and Housing, said: ‘I am delighted to announce these new homes for Doncaster which follow hot on the heels of developments beginning at Carr Lodge in Balby and the completion of homes in Bentley.

‘Doncaster needs to build new homes. We have a large waiting list and growing population and for the general regeneration of the town we need to ensure that we build new properties. These new homes are distributed across several locations in the borough and will affordable, energy efficient and fit for modern life.’

In September, Doncaster Council announced work had started on 1,500 homes in Carr Lodge and unveiled 132 new homes in Bentley.

The 33 new homes and their locations are described below. They will be available to let on the Council’s Choice Based Lettings scheme. More details on this scheme are:

Lawn Avenue, Woodlands - 3 x 2 bedroom houses
Sherwood Avenue, Askern - 3 x2 bedroom houses
Davis Road, Askern - 8 x 2 bedroom bungalows, 1x 2 bedroom disabled bungalow, 1x 1bedroom bungalow
Broomhill Drive, Cantley - 5 x2 bedroom houses, 2 x 2 bedroom houses
Newlands Close, Cantley - 8 x 2 bedroom houses, 1 x 1 bedroom bungalow, 1 x 4 bedroom house
