Doncaster Council is today (Friday 15 November 2013) launching its second video in the ‘Seven Wonders of Doncaster’ campaign via social media.
It comes as the authority’s Tourist Information Centre won the prestigious ‘Visitor Information’ category in the White Rose Awards 2013 on Monday (11 November 2013). Yorkshire was also recently named as third in Lonely Planet’s top 10 regions to visit in the world.
The borough has recently been highlighted nationally in a Kellogg’s TV campaign which saw a fictitious Doncaster sculpture becoming the 11th most popular tourist attraction in the UK. In response, Doncaster Council has produced a series of light-hearted videos promoting the borough’s top attractions.
The ‘Seven Wonders of Doncaster’ campaign follows the story of a fictitious traveller called Henry. Stuck in Doncaster after missing a connecting train, Henry is dubious about what there will be to do in a northern town. The videos follow Henry’s wacky adventures as he visits the borough’s top seven attractions and is pleasantly surprised by what he finds.
The Seven Wonders videos have been produced in-house by the council’s communications team for no cost other than staff time.
Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: ‘Love it or loathe it, our Seven Wonders campaign has got people talking about tourism in Doncaster.
‘Our first video has been watched by more than 1000 people in the first week, in this new video we see Henry visiting the airport.
‘Please remember to use our hash-tag #7wondersdoncaster.’
The Seven Wonders of Doncaster are: Cast, Cusworth Hall, Doncaster Racecourse, the Mansion House, Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, shopping and the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Videos will be released one a week through the council’s Youtube account and promoted through the MyDoncaster facebook and Twitter pages.
