Skanska’s UK piling and foundation business will be holding a traditional ground-breaking ceremony on Monday 18 November at 2.30pm to mark the start of construction of new offices and workshops in Doncaster.

Skanska has invested £11.6 million to modernise its Bentley site, which will create 72 direct jobs during the construction period and expand the facility to accommodate 62 permanent employees, in addition to the 170 already employed there.
This investment builds on a £1.28 million grant secured for the Bentley project from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund in June, designed to support the retention of skills and jobs in the UK.
Martin Pedley, Managing Director for Cementation Skanska, commented: ‘Our business has been operating from this site for almost 100 years, so we have a long history of providing training and employment to the local community.

‘The new facilities will provide a modern facility for engineering, manufacturing and pre-fabrication of products for the construction industry.’

The project is set to become Skanska’s first ever Deep Green project in the UK when it finishes in spring 2015. To achieve this, the team will combine renewable techniques like rainwater harvesting, with on-site power generation from photovoltaic roof panels, making the site extremely energy efficient with almost a zero impact on the environment.

The offices and workshops are set to become a hub for Skanska’s business in the north of England and will support its 2015 business plan to promote regional growth.
