Doncaster Council is reminding residents about changes to bin and recycling collections over the Christmas period.

Councillor Christine Mills, who is the Cabinet Member for the Environment and Waste, said: ‘We recognise that for many people Christmas means visitors, Christmas dinners, presents and extra waste in their black bins.

‘To help accommodate this extra waste we have a number of additional black bin collection weeks over the holidays, though due to public holidays there will be no collections the week commencing 23 December.’

Much of our extra waste at Christmas can be recycled, so residents are being encouraged to use their green box for things like cans, bottles and cardboard.

Should you have more recycling than your box can hold, Household Waste Recycling Centres across Doncaster will open daily during the holiday season except for 25 and 26 December and 1 January and residents can also make use of a number of recycling sites in locations such as supermarket car parks across the borough.

Councillor Mills added: ‘During the holiday period you may find that your collection isn’t at its usual time due to the extra waste crews are having to collect and potentially icy conditions.

‘We are working with SITA, our waste collection contractor, to draft in extra resources over the holidays to minimise disruption and this may mean that you see different types of vehicles collecting recycling around the borough but please be assured that it will all be separated after collection and recycled.’

For more information about Christmas bin collections and recycling, or Christmas Tree recycling in the New Year, call Doncaster Council on 01302 736000 or visit www.doncaster.gov.uk/recycling.

Alternatively, text your enquiry to 71006, including your name, house name or number and postcode in your text (texts are charged at your standard network rate and some networks may charge a premium).

Notes:

The week commencing 16th December will be a borough-wide black bin week.

There will be no collections on 23, 24, 25, 26 or 27 of December

Week commencing the 30 December will be a borough-wide black bin week and, with the exception of households with a Monday or Tuesday collection day, collections will take place one day later than usual.

Residents should refer to your bin collections calendar for week commencing 13 January for details of your green/black bin weeks. If you no longer have the bin collection calendar that was posted through your door, you can download a copy at: www.doncaster.gov.uk/mydoncaster
