Council Area Team staff have set up a Food Bank at the Vermuyden Centre in Thorne, with teams coordinating the collection throughout December. They have been overwhelmed by the support they have received, with partners at the Centre all getting involved.
A number of collection points have been made available within the Centre and all Centre staff have been extremely generous in donating what equates to 6 large boxes full of various items, including tinned veg and cereals and basic toiletries.
All items donated and collected will go to Doncaster Food Bank, which is part of the Trussell Trust’s food bank network in time for Christmas.
The Trussell Trust’s UK food bank network partners with communities nationwide to launch food banks that provide three days of emergency food to men, women and children in crisis. Doncaster food bank is non-judgemental and inclusive, providing assistance to people of all backgrounds and all faiths or none who are found to be in genuine need.
A similar collection is taking place at the Martinwells Centre, Edlington, for another Food bank.
Cllr Pat Knight said ‘It is so important that people have food on the tables, especially at this time of the year, and our staff and volunteers have done a fantastic job pulling together this scheme. People all over the Country are recognising this national problem and it is great to see so many helping out.’
