What promises to be one of the biggest careers events in the area will take place in Doncaster at the Racecourse Conference Centre on Wednesday 19th March 2014.
Doncaster Skills Show Experience, in collaboration with Doncaster College and University Centre, Doncaster Council and supported by the European Social Fund and the National Careers service, is aimed at 14 to 24 year olds who are not sure of what direction to take or simply want to change direction. The idea of the event is to promote vocational careers through fun and exciting interactive activities and experiences.
Local colleges, universities, training providers and the National Careers Service will be on hand to help with their next step.
There will be Have a Go sessions where people can try their hand at new skills and activities, from engineering to floristry, decorating to make up.
Sarah Heslop, Marketing Co-ordinator at Doncaster College, and organiser of the event said,
‘We are delighted to be involved with the Skills Show and this event will offer something for everyone and the Have a Go experiences will allow people to try their hand at a skill, trade or occupation from aircraft marshalling, bricklaying to engineering, it’s a great opportunity to come along and have a go.
Visitors will also be able to find out about Apprenticeships, further and higher education, training and job opportunities in and around Doncaster.
During the day from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm we have invited all the Doncaster schools to attend, and during the evening the event will be open to the general public from 4.30 pm to 6.30pm’
Ross Maloney, Chief Executive of the Skills Show, said, ‘The Skills Show Experience is being delivered throughout England and aims to inspire the next generation of skilled young people, to raise aspirations across a spectrum of opportunities in further education, skills and Apprenticeships, and is at the forefront of delivering a new model of experiential careers education through a wide range of local partners.’
‘The Skills Show Experience provides unique local opportunities to inspire young people through hands on, practical Have a Go activities, the opportunity to engage with employers, colleges and learning providers, and access impartial careers advice to help them find out about the range of jobs and careers open to them.’
‘Have a Go activities are the perfect way for young people and adults to try new skills and to find out what they are good at, and provide a means to inspire them to think differently about vocational education while gaining from the local knowledge and expertise of employers in their local area.’
