A new community being planned by Doncaster Council could feature a money-saving district heating system, reducing the cost of living for residents.

Doncaster Council is currently working with developers to bring the DN7 project to planning stage. The ambitious scheme will see land between Dunscroft, Hatfield and Stainforth transformed into a new low-carbon community with hundreds of homes, shopping facilities, community buildings, parks, employment areas, and a link road connecting the area to the M18.

The authority has recently secured a £26,000 grant from the Department of Energy and Climate Change to explore the potential for a district heating system for the DN7 project and surrounding areas. This is where a number of buildings use heat generated at a central source and supplied through a system of insulated pipes making heating more efficient.

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: ‘Bringing down the cost of living is a top priority for me and we are already helping residents save money on energy bills through our Big Switch campaign.

‘This is another project which has the potential to make homes and businesses of the future more energy efficient, deliver carbon savings and reduce bills for families.’
