Apprentices have been rewarded for their achievements at the Doncaster College Apprentice of the Year Awards, held at the College’s Waterfront Restaurant recently.
The awards celebrated the success of Apprentices and their employers during 2013.
Each award winner received a certificate and trophy in front of family, friends and work colleagues. The celebration included a buffet, prepared and served by Doncaster College hospitality and catering students and entertainment from ‘Side Keys and Co’ and student singers Paula Kaye, Holly Oleisky and Laura Farrell.
Nigel Kennedy, Principal Cornet with the Frickley South Elmsall Band, played fanfares as recipients collected their awards.
The awards are designed to acknowledge and celebrate apprentices’ exceptional contributions to their workplace. All entries were judged and measured against criteria around achievement and good progress in learning, commitment to their own personal development, and producing work beyond expectations. Inspirational and enterprising qualities were also required in order to gain the awards.
Olivia Lancaster, 19, was named Advanced Apprentice of the Year and Roseanne Browning, 21, was named ‘Champion of the Year’. Stuart Airey, 23, won the Personal Achiever of the Year.
DMBC -School Meals Service won the Large Employer of the Year award. This award acknowledged and celebrated the employer’s commitment to developing their workforce through Apprenticeships and DMBC ‘s commitment to training is outstanding.
Doncaster College works with more than 700 different employers across South Yorkshire including, Doncaster Council, Wabtec, Doncaster Rovers, Doncaster Chamber and Rotherham Council. Last year, the College dealt with over 900 employed apprentices across a whole range of occupational areas including engineering, motor vehicle, construction, hairdressing, business administration and accountancy

Advanced Apprentice winner, Olivia Lancaster.
Advanced Apprentice runner-up, Alex Shaw.
Apprentice Champion of the Year, Roseanne Browning.
Large Employer of the Year winner, DMBC-School Meals Service
Small Employer of the Year winner, Little Einstein Day Nursury
Personal Achiever winner, Stuart Airey.
Personal Achiever Runner Up, Amy Jo Smith.
Intermediate Apprentice winner, Thomas Orwin.
Intermediate Apprentice runner up, Megan Greaves.
The Awards were sponsored by Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, Doncaster College and University Centre, Hair & Beauty Co., Macdonalds (Sherwood Restaurants), Smith Bros Wholesale Ltd., and St Leger Homes.
