Lakeside Village Outlet welcomed a very special guest on Thursday (27 February); when Buddy the 17 week old guide dog puppy visited the centre. The shopping centre joined forces with Guide Dogs for the Blind to raise money for a specially-bred puppy.

During recent months, over £5000 was raised and the centre ran a competition to name a guide dog puppy. Over £5,000 was raised so that the centre could ‘Name A Puppy,’ and following this they ran a competition to choose the name. Buddy, is currently being prepared for specialist training, but took time out to meet the winner that named him.

The winner Gracie Baxter aged 10 from Moorends, Doncaster said: ‘It’s great to finally meet him he’s such a lovely dog.’

Centre manager, Cheryl Sadler said: ‘Everyone loved the name that Gracie chose, as, one day he will be a good friend to a person who is blind or visually impaired. We would like to thank all our shoppers and retailers for their amazing donations and support over the last few months. We wish Buddy all the very best with his ongoing training.’

Kelly Dove, spokesperson for Guide Dogs, said: ‘We’re really pleased that Gracie and everyone at Lakeside Village have had the chance to meet Buddy, as it gives them the opportunity to witness the achievement of their amazing fundraising efforts. It costs over £5,000 to breed and puppy walk each guide dog puppy and the lifetime cost of a guide dog is nearly £50,000. So by naming Buddy, Lakeside Village have started a series of events that will eventually make a big difference to a person with sight loss.’
