Doncaster Council is appealing for residents' spooky tales of Cusworth Hall for inclusion in a new guide to the attraction's ghosts. It comes as a tourism video promoting the hall is launched.

Cusworth is an 18th-century Grade I listed building set in the landscaped parklands, it is also one of the most haunted buildings in the region. Staff at Cusworth are currently gathering material for a new leaflet about the various unexplained happenings over the years.

These include:

• Thomas Henry died suddenly at Cusworth Hall in 1903. Many visitors have independently claimed to sense a cold atmosphere at the same place just outside this room.
• A recent psychic evening in the Tea Room nearly didn’t go ahead when the psychic himself claimed that there was a stable boy causing such a disturbance that he wasn’t able to continue.
• There are several lurid stories of a headless lady riding down the hill in a bath chair until she disappears into the lake.
•     Another story relates to a character who knocks on one of the outbuilding doors asking to be let in. He can be recognised by a set of hammers sticking out at angles from his head.

Councillor Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Tourism, said: ‘Some of the stories can be explained by the natural creaks and groans of an old building, other tales seem to have been made up by children. The rest we simply can't explain. If you've ever experienced anything supernatural on your visits to the Hall or Park, or know someone who has, we'd like to hear these stories. Visitors can also take part in our regular ghost evening events.’

Cusworth Hall is featured in Doncaster Council’s latest ‘Seven Wonders of Doncaster’ video. To see the film go to
