Local and European elections will be held on Thursday May 22, 2014. Candidates can now officially put forward their nominations.

Elections are to be held for European Members of Parliament for the Yorkshire and The Humber Region. The number of European Members of Parliament to be elected is six. Nomination papers may be obtained, during normal office hours, from the Regional Returning Officer, Leeds City Council Electoral Services, Room 40, Level 2, Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 3AD or can be downloaded from www.leeds.gov.uk/elections.

Completed nomination papers must be delivered to the Regional Returning Officer at the offices of Leeds City Council Electoral Services, Room 40, Level 2, Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 3AD from 10am to 4pm on any normal working day after the date of this notice, but not later than 4pm on Thursday 24 April 2014. Each submission must be accompanied by a deposit of £5,000 in either legal tender, bankers draft (made payable to the Regional Returning Officer) or electronic transfer (further details are available by contacting 0113 3952858).

Local Government Elections are to be held for one councillor in each of the 21 wards in Doncaster. Nomination papers may be obtained from the Returning Officer, Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster, who will, at the request of any elector for the said electoral area, prepare for signature a nomination paper. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster, on any day during normal office hours until 4pm on Thursday 24 April.

Parish council elections are to be held for one parish councillor in Sprotbrough and Cusworth Parish Council – Stadium Ward and Sprotbrough and Cusworth Parish Council East ward

Doncaster Council is urging residents to make sure they are on the electoral register ahead of the election. To register visit www.doncaster.gov.uk/elections, print off a voter registration form and return it to the council using the address at the top of the form. Residents can also request a voter registration form or apply for a postal vote by calling 0800 180 4604.

Once you are registered to vote, residents can make their mark in one of three ways: by voting in person at a polling station, by postal vote or by proxy. Further details are available on the council’s elections web page.

Chief Executive and Returning Officer, Jo Miller, said: ‘You can only cast your vote on Thursday 22 May if you are on the electoral register. These are your local services so make your voice heard. More information is available on the elections web pages, go to: www.doncaster.gov.uk/elections.’
