Local College Joins Yorkshire Scheme That’s Setting The Standard For The Environment

Doncaster College and University Centre has today signed up to a new environmental scheme which promises financial savings coupled with a simple accreditation process.

The Investors in the Environment (iiE) scheme is relatively new to Yorkshire and the Humber and is being cited the ‘fastest growing environmental scheme in Yorkshire’ due to its combination of simple methods, recognised business accreditation and money-saving benefits.

Helen Lightburn, Director of Estates at Doncaster College and University Centre explained why they have joined the scheme:

‘We have recognised the need to join an environmental scheme for some time – and Investors in the Environment suits us in terms of flexibility and cost. We’re excited to be on board – it will bring opportunities for financial savings and it complements our commitment to excellence in sustainability.’
Doncaster College and University Centre is a large provider of further and higher education in South Yorkshire. During the last academic year, over 20,000 people enrolled on over 500 part and full-time courses. Across its two main campuses, the College employs around 1,000 staff and accommodates students aged 16+.

The scheme is managed by Yorkshire Energy Partnership – a leading local authority-owned sustainability company in Yorkshire – and is open to all businesses in the Yorkshire and Humber area.
Hugh Cripps, Chief Executive at Yorkshire Energy Partnership, is keen for other businesses to realise the benefits of the scheme:
‘Investors in the Environment offers a new green ‘stamp of approval’ which insists that actual environmental savings are made, rather than just having the right paperwork in place. Just by working towards accreditation, businesses will reduce costs, boost their green credentials and attract new customers. It’s a one-stop-shop to cutting carbon and businesses are quick to see the resulting financial benefits come rolling in.’

The scheme benefits are:
•     Less time and resource intensive than most EMS
•     Step by step guidance tools and templates to implement an EMS
•     Local support from an account manager
•     Accreditation included
•     Three levels to choose from
•     Applicable for all sectors and size of business
•     Good value for money
•     One inclusive price
•     Great networking opportunities
•     Identified resource efficiencies and cost savings
•     Improved competitiveness
•     Improved Corporate Social Responsibility
