Doncaster residents are being invited to take part in a day of celebrations to honour the men and women of the Armed Forces, past and present on Saturday 28th June for National Armed Forces Day.
Doncaster's celebrations, between 9.50am - 2pm, will take place in and around Sir Nigel Gresley Square, Waterdale and will be hosted jointly by the Elected Mayor and Civic Mayor of Doncaster. Local hero Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson MBE will also be asked to speak as part of the celebrations.
Mayor Jones, said: ‘Armed Forces Day is a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together to acknowledge the borough’s brave servicemen and women and the selfless contribution the Armed Forces community makes to this country. I hope that we can show the town's servicemen and women, past and present, just how proud we all are of them by packing Sir Nigel Gresley Square for these celebrations.
‘All Doncaster residents are invited to join us for a full day of events and activities, which will include the chance to share memories with veterans from past wars and look at related displays and exhibits of war-time memorabilia in the One-Stop-Shop entrance, just off the square.’
Everyone is welcome to attend the celebrations and families can enjoy a range of entertainment and activities including live performances by various artists. Information about the full programme for the day can be found at www.doncaster.gov.uk/armedforcesday
