A man aged 38 and a woman aged 40 have today been arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending. This follows an operation in the Eastfield area of Scarborough this morning.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team working in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council Trading Standards Service and North Yorkshire Police executed a warrant at the address seizing mobile phones and documentation.

The suspects are currently in custody and being questioned by officers from the Team.

Nationally the Illegal Money Lending Teams have secured more than 310 prosecutions for illegal money lending and related activity, leading to nearly 200 years’ worth of custodial sentences. They have written off £55 million worth of illegal debt and helped over 23,000 victims.
