A group of twelve students gave an insightful presentation to staff, relatives and all that had helped them along the way to celebrate the completion of a 12 week Prince’s Trust programme.
The presentation was not only a chance to reminisce about the experiences they enjoyed over the 12 week period, but also a moment to share their individual inspirational stories about how far they have come.
Throughout the programme students enjoyed a residential trip to Thornbridge Farm in Great Longstone, where they took part in activities such as problem solving, rock climbing and abseiling. The course also included a community project which saw students clearing up the woodland area at the Forest School, High Melton so that facilities could be made use of again.
Throughout the challenge students made a positive difference within the local community, raising funds and hosting activities for Doncaster Mencap and eldery residents of Wheatley Hills.
Students chorused that the valuable experience of a work placement has now given them confidence and that they look forward to what they wish to accomplish in the future, whether that be full time employment or further education.
24 year old Jeanette Gordon explained ‘I have gained new experiences and conquered my fear of heights. I would recommend the course to anyone as it is one of the best experiences I’ve had’.
This the ninth team from Doncaster College to complete the personal development course for 16-25 year olds that aims to improve young people’s confidence, motivation and ability to work with others.
