After the fantastic spectacle of hosting the global event that is the Tour de France, Yorkshire is set to receive more international attention, with the European Jet Ski Cup Championships in Doncaster.
The Cup Championship final will be held in Doncaster from 22-24 August, the first time that the event has ever been held in the UK.
Over 100 competitors from across the continent will flock to Doncaster’s Lakeside to compete against each other in the hopes of winning the title. The honour of hosting this prestigious event comes after Doncaster hosted a stage of the Championship finals last year, impressing organisers and competitors alike.
Now, the final stage will be held at Lakeside, emphasising the Borough’s capability to host truly world-class sporting events.
Cabinet member for Tourism, Councillor Bob Johnson, said: ‘Hosting the European Jet Ski Cup Championship final is a tremendous honour for Doncaster, especially as we have been chosen as the first venue in the UK to host this stage.
There are competitors from all over Europe coming to battle it out, as well as representative from areas as far flung as the United Arab Emirates, and there is massive global interest in the event. This competition will go a long way to furthering the reputation of Yorkshire, and specifically Doncaster, as a world class sporting venue.’
Steve Bushell, Chairman of the British Jet Sport Racing Association (JSRA), said: ‘Doncaster is the perfect host for the 2014 European Cup Championships, the facilities here are excellent. Having had a stage of the competition here last year, we know what a truly world class venue this is for water sports. I’m excited to see the Championship final coming here.’
