Kenneth Barrett (73) of Barnsley will be singing all the way to the bank after scooping £1000 as the first ever winner of the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice Lottery, Jack’s Jackpot.
Jack Waller, (5) the namesake of Jack’s Jackpot, will be handing over his cheque on Thursday 5th August at Meadowhall Shopping Centre where Kenneth bought the winning ticket last week from lottery manager Peter Bradley.
Kenneth, a retired professional singer, was absolutely delighted to learn that he had won the Jackpot, and was actually at the bank arranging a standing order to become a regular member of the lottery when the telephone call came through to tell him the good news. Upon his arrival home he learnt that his generous support of the charity had made him money.
‘I couldn’t believe it when I got home and found out I had won. I was actually at the bank setting up a monthly subscription to the lottery and my daughter took the call. I will be telling all of my friends and family to join. For just a pound I got a £1000 back, which is amazing. The best bit is now I am a regular member I know that Bluebell Wood can count on my money to help run the hospice, and you never know I might be lucky again!’
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice will be a dedicated facility for the children of South Yorkshire and the North Midlands with life limiting and terminal illnesses. It will provide an oasis of support, encouragement and practical care for children and their families throughout the child’s life.
The lottery has been established to contribute toward the running costs of the Hospice, which have been estimated at £1.8 million annually. Statutory funding is expected to be only 4.17%; this would run the hospice for 17 days. All other running costs must be met though fundraising.
