Locally produced ales are now on sale at Doncaster’s Tourist Information Centre but are selling out fast!
Four types of beer from the Doncaster Brewery are on offer. They are: ‘First Aviation’ – a pale ale, ‘Sand House’ – a blonde beer, ‘Cheswold’ – a classic bitter and ‘1194 Charter’ – a porter.
Individual bottles of beer cost £3.50. Gift packs of either three bottles or two bottles and a Doncaster Brewery pint glass cost £10 each.
The beers were launched on Tuesday 18 December by Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, Doncaster Brewery’s head brewer Ian Blaylock and local chef Michael Price from The Gourmet Kitchen.
Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, said: ‘We already have Doncaster wine on sale which is one of our bestsellers. I am a big fan of real ale and am delighted to see Doncaster beer on our shelves. Bottles of ale have been so popular that we practically sold out at the end of last week. We have had to get an urgent delivery in to cope with demand ahead of Christmas. Both the wines and beers make great souvenirs for visitors and an ideal last-minute festive gift.’
Ian Blaylock said: ‘All of our ales have names linked to the history of Doncaster. The town has a lot of heritage that many people don’t know about and we want to raise awareness of our proud past. The Tourist Information Centre is a good outlet for our product and we are delighted with how well it is selling.’
Michael Price said: ‘The Doncaster Brewery have a diverse range of great beers. I recommend serving the porter with stewed beef or game, the bitter would be delicious with any rich meats and the blonde or pale ales are ideal with cold meats and cheeses.’
The Tourist Information Centre is in The Blue Building, 38-40 High Street, Doncaster, DN1 1DE. Telephone: 01302 734309 or email: tourist.information@doncaster.gov.uk
