Pam Harrington is delighted to have passed her Maths GCSE at the age of 49.
And that’s after graduating last year with a First Class degree in Early Childhood Studies at University Centre Doncaster.
Pam, who is an Early Years Leader at Lily Pads Tranmoor Primary School, Armthorpe, returned to study this year, to do Maths GCSE and like many students before her she had struggled with the subject and dreaded doing maths at school. The memories of school maths lessons continued to haunt her!
Pam, from Auckley, near Doncaster, said, ‘I dreaded Maths it was my worst nightmare! I remember sitting in class, not understanding what was taught and not having the confidence to say anything to my teacher. It didn’t seem to matter in those days. My grades dropped, as did my confidence affecting the whole of my studies. I sat the CSE Maths paper and probably just got my name correct on the paper achieving a Grade 5!’
However, returning to the subject this year and by studying with undergraduates and other mature students in a small class, Pam felt supported and confident to succeed in the subject and is delighted to have passed with a Grade C first time!
Pam has continued the GCSE theme to support her own career progression by studying Science and English and she hopes to have the same result.
