The borough’s economy has enjoyed an estimated three quarter of a million pound boost, thanks to a weekend of jetski action at the Lakeside.
The European Jetski championships were organised by International Jet Sport Racing Association and supported by Doncaster Council. The championships, which took place on the 16, 17 and 18 August, were last held in the UK some 10 years ago and have previously been held in Portugal and Belgium.
More than 300 competitors and 4,000 spectators turned out for the event over the weekend.
Councillor Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Tourism, said: ‘Jet ski competitions take place regularly at the Lakeside in Doncaster and are an important part of our growing number of visitor attractions and events.
‘Over the weekend we had world champions among competitors and teams from Sweden, across Europe and as far afield as Dubai.
‘The event has put Lakeside firmly on the map as an excellent venue, all the teams left thanking Doncaster for its hospitality and its superb facilities.’
