Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery welcome Dr. Robert Meyrick, Professor of Art History at Aberystwyth University, on Monday 19 May to give an illustrated lecture on the life and work of Mexborough born artist Edgar Holloway.

The lecture, which will cover the development of Holloway’s work from the early watercolours and drypoints made in the countryside around Doncaster, to his critically acclaimed series of self-portrait etchings, and the late landscapes produced in Wales and around his home in Ditchling Common in Sussex will provide a wonderful overview of the life of Doncaster’s most important artist.

Dr Meyrick is the recognised authority on 20th century British art and has written the definitive catalogue on Edgar Holloway’s work. His lecture is being delivered to coincide with Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery’s major exhibition of Holloway’s work, which celebrates the centenary of the artist.

Karen Johnson, Assistant Director of Communities, said: ‘We are delighted that Dr Meyrick is coming to Doncaster.

‘Local art lovers are in for a real treat - not only will they have opportunity to gain a fascinating insight into the life and work of Edgar Holloway but they will be able to enjoy his works currently on display in our exhibition Edgar Holloway: The Art of a Lifetime.’

Dr Meyrick’s lecture will take place at 2pm on Monday 19th May at Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery. The lecture is £5 and you can pay on the door.

The exhibition ‘Edgar Holloway: The Art of a Lifetime’ continues until 14th June. For more information, please visit the Doncaster Council website on www.doncaster.gov.uk/museums
