Doncaster College student secures Ritz summer placement
Shila Ghale, BTEC Level 3 Catering and Hospitality student at Doncaster College has secured a four week placement at one of the world's greatest hotels, The Ritz in London.
The sought after placement will see first year student, Shila, 22 who lives in Intake with her parents working in The Ritz’s professional kitchen and gaining experience of working in a high pressure environment whilst living in London.
To secure the placement Shila had to use her initiative and gain 40 hours work experience in her own time with local hospitality businesses. Some of the placements she secured included Blyth’s Charnwood Hotel, Doncaster Racecourse and Martyn’s Famous Fish at Doncaster’s Fish Market.
The BTEC Level 3 Hospitality course is a two year course teaches students skills for both Front of House and kitchen skills enabling students to progress on to a university degree upon completion.
Michelle Jackson, programme leader for the BTEC Level 3 Catering and Hospitality said ‘Shila is a determined individual who has shown promise and initiative from the outset of the course, her skills both serving in the Waterfront Restaurant here at the College and also her ability to produce consistently good dishes in the kitchen has not gone unnoticed and the opportunity to spend four weeks working in an environment such as the Ritz is a fantastic chance for Shila to gain industry experience’
