Doncaster was the location for a Best Bar None briefing day which saw delegates from across the country attending to learn more about the best practice scheme and sharing knowledge of how to develop a successful partnership model in their area.

The event, held in the Mansion House, was organised following the announcement by the Home Office of the 20 Local Alcohol Action Areas (LAAA's). Doncaster is one of the LAAAs.

Presentations were delivered by scheme coordinators and partners from Doncaster, Oldham and Woking highlighting the success of Best Bar None in helping to reduce Anti-Social Behaviour in the night time economy.

Representatives from Community Alcohol Partnerships (CAPs), Street Pastors, Portman Group and PASS (proof of age scheme) were also on hand to offer support to the delegates.

Best Bar None is a national award programme which promotes responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises.

It aims to reduce alcohol related crime and disorder in town centres across the country. In particular, it provides a framework for training on enforcing proof of age policies, along with building relationships between the licensed trade, police and local authorities to reduce crime and improve safety.

The programme is supported by the Home Office and British Institute of Innkeeping (BII), the professional body for the licensed retail sector, as well as the drinks industry.
Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: ‘We were delighted that Best Bar None held their event in Doncaster.
‘The award winning Doncaster Best Bar None is now in its ninth year and encourages and recognises licensees for the safe and responsible management of licensed premises.

‘We are proud that so many of the town’s licensees are signed up to the scheme meaning that residents and visitors can enjoy not only a great night out in Doncaster but also a safe night out.’
